Dr. Lisa Hartwell is one of today’s leading experts in sex and relationships. For over 20 years Dr. Lisa Hartwell has raised awareness about the critical sexual issues of our time including sexual abuse prevention, treatment for abuse survivors, infidelity, teen pregnancy, and sexual addiction.
Dr. Hartwell is a sought after speaker who helps audiences who are struggling in their lives to dig deep and examine their perspectives when it comes to relationships and sexual issues.
Dr. Hartwell has presented for leading organizations including the State of Hawaii Department of Health, Sex Abuse Treatment Center, Mid-Pacific Institute, Department of Defense, Navy and Marine Health Clinics in Hawaii, and Chaminade University.
In her private practice, Hartwell Therapy & Consulting, LLC., Dr. Hartwell works with individuals and couples suffering from relationship and sexual issues. Through cognitive-behavioral and interpersonal therapy Dr. Hartwell helps patients to develop an understanding of their problems, develop tools, and create lasting change for an improved quality of life.
Because of her extensive training and experience in the fields of psychology and sexual education, Dr. Hartwell is regularly called upon to consult for medical clinics, organizations and on public policy for her expert opinion on sexual violence, sexual perpetrators, and sexual abuse prevention.
Dr. Hartwell has served as a member of the Hawaii Psychological Association and American Psychological Association. She is a clinical consultant and Board Member with Scream, Run, Tell (SRTell.org), a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping parents, teachers and children break the chains of sexual abuse.
Dr. Hartwell’s background includes earning a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (PsyD) from Argosy University Hawaii and a Masters in Clinical Psychology (MA) from Argosy University in Hawaii . She also holds a Bachelor (of Science) in Business Administration (BSBA) degree from the University of Phoenix in Hawaii and an Associates Degree in Registered Nursing (RN) from the University of Alaska, Anchorage.
Dr. Hartwell grew up in Ashland, Oregon then moved to Hawaii in her early 20’s after attending nursing school in Alaska. Early in her career, she worked as an emergency room nurse and went on to serve as the Director of the medical crew as a flight nurse. She completed her residency with the Department of Corrections in Wisconsin, post-doctorate residency at Hawaii State Hospital, and completed her boards to receive her license as a Clinical Psychologist. Dr. Hartwell went on to start her private practice, Hartwell Therapy & Consulting, LLC, in 2003.
Dr. Hartwell is the author of Bad Apples: How to Feel Good Even When Rotten Things Happen. She is also a contributing author to Making Marriage a Success: Pearls of Wisdom from Experts Across the Nation by Jaleh Donaldson.
When Dr. Hartwell is not working in her private practice, speaking, or writing, she spends time with her husband, Chuck, and their son in their Honolulu, Hawaii home enjoying the ocean and quietly exploring places off the beaten path.
